Macrocarpa Red
Australian Native Watercolour Print
Macrocarpa Red is a hand-painted watercolour print that captures the bold, dramatic beauty of a large macrocarpa blossom. Its rich red petals glow against an earthy background, creating a striking contrast. I painted this piece in my garden studio on the Mid North Coast of NSW, and it was inspired by a recent trip to Western Australia, where these magnificent flowers first caught my eye.
This artwork brings warmth and energy into your home. It is perfect for anyone who loves native flowers or wants a vibrant, nature-inspired accent.
Macrocarpa Red painting process & technique
I created this piece using the negative painting technique, layering washes of transparent watercolour while preserving the light areas of the petals. Through this method, the blossom gains depth and intensity. As a result, it appears alive and full of movement. In this way, the print conveys both energy and a sense of natural warmth.
Styling ideas & pairing suggestions
Part of the Australian Flora series, Macrocarpa Red pairs beautifully with Orange Gum Blossom. Together, these works create a harmonious collection of native blooms. You can display them alone or mix them with other prints for a bold, vibrant wall.
