Flannel Flower 2

The Flannel Flower 2 watercolour print celebrates one of Australia’s most loved wildflowers in a fresh, expressive way. This piece features five larger blooms painted in delicate whites and greys, set against a softly abstract background of layered colours. I painted it by hand in my garden studio on the Mid North Coast of NSW, inspired by the flowers that grow wild along our coastal bush tracks.

Using the negative painting technique, I built each bloom through gentle layers of transparent watercolour, allowing the petals to emerge from the colourful background. As each layer dried, new shapes appeared, creating movement and light. Because of this process, the composition feels both loose and refined, with petals that seem to glow naturally.

This artwork pairs beautifully with Dancing Gum Blossoms. Each piece in the series brings a touch of Australian flora into your home.
