Whispers in the Wild
Whispers in the Wild is an immersive exploration of a fern-filled forest gully, painted slowly and intuitively over several weeks. Layer upon layer of fine leaf detail has been built using negative painting, creating depth, light, and a feeling of being drawn gently into the undergrowth.
Predominantly green and lush, the foreground is rich with intricate foliage and earthy tones, while loose, washy gum trees soften into the background, giving the piece space and breath. Hidden among the leaves are quiet forest inhabitants — a green tree snake, a green tree frog, and a satin bowerbird — revealed only to those who take the time to look closely.
This artwork invites stillness and curiosity. It speaks to the quiet magic of the Australian bush, where life hums softly beneath the canopy and beauty is often found in the details.
Inspired by the fern gully at the back of our property, more about me here.
Collector’s Note:
This artwork was painted over three weeks, allowing the layered foliage and fine details to emerge slowly and deliberately. The extensive use of negative painting and careful observation of light, form, and texture make Whispers in the Wild a richly detailed piece that continues to reveal itself over time. Created as a singular, immersive work, it is especially suited to collectors who value patience, process, and the quiet complexity of the natural world.
